About a year ago, I bought an Amiga 600. It did not have a hard drive, but all Amiga 600 have an IDE port, and you can use a Compact Flash card with a CF-IDE adapter as a hard drive. That worked fine, and I could install Workbench on the CF card, and use it. But eventually I though I should try to use WHDLoad, so that I could run more games directly from the hard drive. I found a video by Nostalgia Nerd on Youtube, where he goes through the process of installing Classic Workbench and WHDLoad on a Compact Flash card, unfortunately this video is (currently) four years old, and also very… quick? With the help of the comments[1] and some trial and error, I managed to get it working, though. |

July 1995 The Beehive Logo. At the first Amiga Technologies GmbH press conference, several pictures of a new design for an Amiga tower case were released. The design had a small `beehive'-like logo which was obviously intended as a new symbol for the Amiga. When these pictures were distributed on the Internet, much dicussion ensued on the Amiga-related Usenet newsgroups. In general, people liked the design of the tower case but were unsure about the small triangular logo. |

A lot of hardware-related news today, but this one will probably mean the most to us alternative OS fans: it seems AmigaOS 4 has found hardware to actually run on. The board will have an IBM 750GL at 800 MHz with 1MB of L2 cache, and will support processors up to 1Ghz. Also: “One of the biggest changes to the Amy05 design from our first released specification is the addition of the AMD Geode CS5536 companion device. For Project Prometheus/Amy’05 this becomes Amy’s Southbridge.” The current board is is a development board, and will be made available in a limited quantity for hardware testing/OS4 development. |
