MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. When used in conjunction with a game's data files (ROMs), MAME will more or less faithfully reproduce that game on a PC. MAME can currently emulate over 1500 classic arcade video games from the '70s and '80s. The ROM images that MAME utilizes are "dumped" from arcade games' original circuit-board ROM chips. MAME becomes the ""hardware"" for the games, taking the place of their original CPUs and support chips. Therefore, these games are NOT simulations, but the actual, original games that appeared in arcades. |

AROS is an attempt to build from scratch an AmigaOS 3.1 clone. Up to now this has been a slow process, but finally we have a working operating system. There is a whole lot of stuff missing, like networking, sound drivers and things like that, but it does have a simple desktop and a fully functional command line. On an internal level we have followed AmigaOS, except where we can speed things up or make them more modular by using a custom built object oriented system. AmigaOS was really quite object oriented as it is, all we are doing is upgrading the parts Commodore never had time to do. Also our OS is portable across computer platforms. |

What Is Mac On Linux? Mac-on-Linux lets you run MacOS under Linux/ppc. MOL runs natively on the processor, i.e. it is very fast. Unlike most mac emulators, MOL can run MacOS 8.6 and later WITHOUT A ROM IMAGE. |

ScummVM is an implementation of LucasArts S.C.U.M.M. (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) interpreter, used in games such as Monkey Island and Day Of The Tentacle. It can interpret SCUMM games that use .001 type resources at the time. Some things are still missing in a few games, and there are a few bugs. Regardless of the bugs it is still possible to play some games all the way through to the end (The Secret Of Monkey Island CD-ROM version played all the way through with the CD Music patch, screenshots of the end on the screenshots page.). |

Linux/m68k is the port of the Linux operating system to run on systems using Motorola's 68020, 68030, 68040 and 68060 microprocessors. Linux/m68k, like other Linux ports, is source compatible with Linux on other platforms. Current releases of the m68k kernel are stable on the Amiga, Atari, many Apple Macintosh models, and several VMEbus single-board computers from BVM, Motorola and Tadpole. In addition, ports are underway with varying levels of progress) to the HP 9000/300 series, the NeXT workstation (black hardware), the Q40 and Q60, and Sun 3 series workstations. |

VICE is a Versatile Commodore Emulator, i.e. a program that runs on a Unix, MS-DOS, Win95/NT, OS/2, Acorn RISC OS or BeOS machine and executes programs intended for the old 8-bit Commodore computers. The current version emulates the C64, the C128 (80 column screen is included now), the VIC20, all the PET models (except the SuperPET 9000, which is out of line anyway) and the CBM-II (aka C610). |
